Endodontics
Devitalization, root canal treatment.
When the caries is too deep it reaches the heart of the tooth or the pulp, consisting of blood vessels and nerves. When the caries reaches the pulp it causes pain up to the death of the nerve, which leads to the formation of a granuloma that can evolve into an abscess, but also turn into the much more serious phlegmon.
The main goal of endodontic therapy is to remove and disinfect the root canals from microorganisms and debris and preventing colonization or bacterial recolonization during and after treatment. This goal is achieved by carrying out a chemomechanical preparation of the root canals, in which mechanical systems are associated with the use of irrigating substances.
Finally, the canals are filled with a filling material to prevent the recurrence of the infection.
This method saves teethand prevents painful extractions.
